Meet the Other Characters

Every story needs its core cast, the ones who steal scenes, stir trouble and occasionally save the day. But the world of The Black Funeral Hat is also shaped by a handful of wonderfully chaotic, heartfelt and occasionally unhinged supporting characters.

Tallulah

Tallulah is the woman who enters a room as if she's been personally invited by destiny. She's bold, stylish and unapologetically herself: the kind of person who makes people whisper, "Who is that?" even if they've known her for years.

Tallulah walks through life like she owns the pavement. Erin, meanwhile, feels like she is tripping over every crack in it.

We've all met a Tallulah: someone who seems to have everything we lack. Someone who makes us question our worth without ever meaning to. Someone who becomes a symbol of our own insecurities.

Bill Williams

Bill Williams is the kind of man people underestimate at first glance and then immediately regret doing so. He's a publisher with a sharp eye for talent, a dry sense of humour and a heart that's far more romantic than he'd ever admit.

He's also the man who falls hard and unexpectedly for Suzie. Suzie brings Bill out of his shell. Bill grounds Suzie in ways she didn't know she needed.

Their romance is funny, tender, and full of moments where Bill looks at Suzie like she's the most extraordinary thing he's ever seen, because to him, she is.

Erin Smith may be at the centre of this whirlwind, but she's surrounded by a constellation of characters who push her, challenge her, comfort her, confuse her and occasionally drag her kicking and screaming toward the truth. But this isn't just Erin's story. It's theirs, too.
